What to Do When You Have A Tyre Puncture
Tyre punctures can happen at any given point. It is not always something that you can be ready for as well. One minute you might be having the time of your life enjoying a lovely drive in the sunset and the next, your vehicle is all weird and bumpy and you hear that loud sound that comes with a puncture. So, what do you do next? How do you handle the situation or rather, how can you be prepared for something like that? Here are some of the things that you should know about tyre punctures and what you can do about them.
You Need to Act Immediately Without Taking Too Much Time
It can be somewhat unnerving to get a tyre puncture when you least expect it, especially if you are not in an area that you are familiar with as well. But that said, how to respond to the situation and how much time it takes you to do so if what counts the most in a situation such as this. As soon as the tyre has been punctured, they begin to lose pressure really, really fast and that is why they go completely flat sometimes.
Don’t keep driving your vehicle though, that would not be the right way to handle it. If you are near a mechanic you can get them fixed here but otherwise pull over immediately without wasting time. Carefully and slowly ease the vehicle to the side of the road and roll to a stop. If you keep on driving thinking that it is alright the inside of the tyres can get damaged and the handling as well as the controlling of your vehicle could also be affected. You are compromising your safety and the last thing you want would be risk your own life in the process.
You Would Have to Replace Tyres
If you keep on driving the damage that you are allowing to happen on your vehicle could be so great that you will have to perhaps replace the tyres. Now we all know that tyres do not come cheap and therefore, replacing it when not needed is not an expense that you would want to have. So, stop and take the right actions so that you don’t have to blow a hole in your budget by replacing your tyres.
You May Not Always Need A New Tyre
Assuming that you have taken the right steps and pulled over when the damage actually happened, you will stop any further trauma to the tyre and the vehicle overall. If you can get a hold of a good mechanic after this, they will be able to repair the tyres with something called a tyre plug.
This means that you do not always have to spend a lot on replacing the tyres if you know what you have to do. But keep in mind that you will need an expert for this. If you do not know how to do this, do not ever attempt this by yourself as it can become a hazard to your safety.
